Meet Kelvin Buck: A Committed Advocate for a better Mississippi

Kelvin Buck is the Democratic candidate for Mississippi’s 1st Congressional District, dedicated to enhancing the lives of families and fostering business growth across the state. As a lifelong Mississippian, Kelvin has devoted 25 years to public service, championing numerous community improvements alongside fellow residents and government colleagues. With your support, he aims to extend this progress nationally in Washington, D.C.
Throughout his time in office, Kelvin has championed and prioritized economic development, infrastructure enhancements, healthcare affordability, public safety, and overall quality of life. Kelvin is committed to these key areas of focus as your congressman.
Kelvin began his public service journey as an Alderman in Holly Springs, MS, serving six years. In 2003, he was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives, representing Marshall, Lafayette, and Benton Counties for a decade. In 2013, he became Mayor of Holly Springs, MS. His legislative tenure includes pivotal roles, such as previously serving on the Executive Board of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and chairing the Universities and Colleges Committee.
With a focus on progressive education policy, Kelvin ensured funding for higher education institutions and spearheaded educational achievements, like the bipartisan Children’s First Act of 2009, emphasizing accountability and student success.
His 20-year broadcasting career includes work with WTVA television in Tupelo, roles at Rust College, and leadership at WPTY News in Memphis. Community involvement is central to Kelvin’s mission, exemplified by his past work as the executive director of Alliance Charitable Foundation, which focuses on improving health outcomes in the Marshall and Benton Counties. In addition, Kelvin served on the Marshall County Industrial Development Board and the Strawberry Plains Audubon Center Board of Directors.
Kelvin is a proud father and grandfather. He holds a B.A. in Mass Communications from Rust College and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Administration from Jackson State University. A proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. Kelvin is also active in his local church, New Providence M.B. Church in his hometown of Tupelo, MS.
